Happy Spreadsheet Day 2015
It’s Saturday, October 17th, and we’re celebrating Spreadsheet Day 2015!
Even though it seems like spreadsheets have been around forever, VisiCalc was first released 36 years ago, on October 17th, 1979. That’s why we chose this date as the day to celebrate.
Spreadsheet Day Cake
Albert Kroes works with Excel every day, and he had a special cake made for his department yesterday. What a great idea, and it looks delicious! Thanks for allowing me to share your photo, Albert.
In the screen shot below, you can see the items in the cake’s spreadsheet, and the totals. It looks like toe toners were selling well, way back in October 1979.
Spreadsheet Hall of Fame
This year’s project is to create a digital Spreadsheet Hall of Fame, and to start by inducting our favorite spreadsheet programs.
There is a poll on my Spreadsheet Day website, and you can head over there to cast your vote.
Remember, “If you don’t vote, who will?”
I got that line from a probably-not-suitable-for-work Trailer Park Boys website that is encouraging Canadians to vote in our upcoming election. Don’t click that link if you’re under 18, or easily offended.
Back to Celebrating
Remember to tell your friends and family that it’s Spreadsheet Day today, and now get back to your celebrations!
