Excel needs glitter! And stronger coffee. And don't keep your goldfish near the pivot tables. Those are just a few of the things that I learned in Twitter this week. I'll bet J-Walk was worried that there wouldn't be a list, because of all the problems yesterday.

There were some interesting links too, including a tv trivia game (I scored 4 points!), and a music video that mentions VBA. Not the self-modifying kind though – you should probably avoid that.

So Geeky Please allow me to show you I'm not a geek with the help of this five page flowchart backed up by this pivot table... in Klingon. Sign your boyfriend is a geek: He sends you the dinner menu for the week in an Excel spreadsheet. Haha. Kenz just called me the "Spreadsheet Whisperer". Sometimes I like to refer to myself as the "Excel Kid". Zoiks, I'm so geeky.

Find Answers to Excel Questions

Where do you go when you've got an Excel question? A while ago, I recommended the Excel newsgroups as a great place to ask questions and get one (or several) solutions. Is that what you use, or something different?

Conditional Formatting Is Better Than Your Faulty Memory

If there are any typos in this blog post, blame my maple syrup related injury. Sunday morning, I tried to clean a few drips from the syrup jug, and ended up with a puncture wound. Those crystallized bits are razor sharp, so don't put your delicate typing fingers anywhere near them. Maybe it's just a Canadian hazard!

Bravely carrying on, I was updating some files, and keeping track of the updates in Excel. On a sheet named All_Files, I have a list of all the files, and the number of downloads for each file.

 

On the Files_Updated sheet, I have a list of files that have been updated.

Mark Duplicate Entries With Conditional Formatting
